Congratulations!

Our department is full of wonderful and engaging faculty, staff, and trainees who are being recognized on campus, in our community, and at the national level for their outstanding work and character. Each issue of the newsletter we will recognize awards and achievements of members of the department.

Congratulations to Drs. Wesley Dillard and Casey Orzechowicz for being elected chief residents for the 2022-2023 academic year. The chiefs will be responsible for the residents and fellows call schedules and act as a liaison between the trainees and the departmental staff and attendings. They are instrumental in making our department function, and we are so proud of both of them!

Congratulations to Drs. Bryan Hierlmeier and Latoya Mason-Bolden who were recipients of the Trailblazer Teaching Award. This award is presented by the UMMC School of Medicine Office of Medical Education and recognizes outstanding members of the medical faculty for demonstrating excellence in medical student education; for engaging, inspiring, and mentoring learners; for modeling educational leadership; and for serving as a catalyst for the enhancement of teaching and learning.
